Maine: Day 3

Today was stormy and overcast. We spent last night in a nice Travelodge in Portland and started our day driving up the coast to Bailey Island. On the way out in the country and what felt like the middle of nowhere we saw two fighter jets from the nearby Navy Air base flying around at really low altitudes and to our surprise, for a moment while pulled over on the side of the road, the Blue Angels. We decided to get off the main roads to see some local towns away from the tourism. Bailey Island was down a long chain of islands and we really didn’t know what was there except that it looked remote on the map. It was lovely. In town there is a stacked stone bridge, the only one in the world like it. We drove until the road literally ended at the ocean and walked around a neat little gift shop, photographed some of the beach, and ate at a lobster house before heading back up to the mainland.

Boothbay Harbor was our next stop and a wonderful little town, though apparently quite expensive to stay in. Walked around and saw some shops, two local girls were diving off of a pier where we were walking and taking photo of the bay. I don’t know how they stayed in the water so long when it was 68 outside.

Tonight we are staying just outside of Boothbay in a cute little motel all lit up with string lights outside and American flags. But there isn’t wi-fi so I will post when we do have internet again.
